President Obama's Upcoming Vacation Means Lengthy TFR For Martha's Vineyard

Aircraft Operations Restricted August 9-24

The FAA has published a TFR for Martha's Vineyard in advance of President Obama's upcoming summer vacation at the resort island, and the restrictions will be in place from August 9-24.

The TFR consists of two concentric circles centered on the Martha's Vineyard VOR-DME (MVY), with the outer circle extending out 30 nautical miles and a 10 nm ring at the center of the TFR. Both rings include airspace from the surface to FL180.

Flight restrictions are more stringent in the inner ring, with only military aircraft "directly supporting the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the Office of the President of the United States. Coordinated and approved law enforcement, air ambulance and firefighting operations must receive approval prior to entering this airspace at 508-968-7126 to avoid potential delays." The usual restrictions for a Presidential VIP TFR apply to the outer ring.

Aircraft departing or arriving Nantucket Memorial Airport (KACK) are not permitted to transit the 10 nm inner core.

Pilots are advised to closely check NOTAMS for any changes or additions to the TFR.
