FIKI!!! FAA Certifies DA42 For Known Icing

REALLY Hot News About A Cool Subject....

Diamond Aircraft tells ANN that the DA42, its turbo-diesel powered light twin, has received FAA Known Ice Certification. The FAA certification expands the coverage of the original EASA Known Ice Certification to N-registered aircraft, and enables US pilots to get even more utility out of their DA42 aircraft.

Burning a total of 12 gallons per hour on both engines, Diamond boasts that the DA42 has a range of up to 1,100 nm, and cruises at speeds up to 170 kts. With its twin turbo-diesel, FADEC-controlled engines, the G1000 glass cockpit, and now the ‘FIKI’ certification, the DA42 is "a superbly capable traveling machine."

“The DA42 is an ideal cross-country traveling plane for pilots who want the ability to go direct, over rugged terrain or open water, and who need to be able to fly when CAVU is nowhere to be found, and when the mercury drops below freezing,” explains Heike Larson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Diamond Aircraft. “With the Known Icing system, DA42 pilots now have even more options, compared to most high-performance singles.”

To get Known Ice approval for their TKS-equipped DA42, owners need to get Diamond Service Bulletin OSB-42-015, Revision 3 or later, completed at a Diamond Authorized Service Center designated for this work. Diamond Aircraft will cover the labor and parts costs for the Service Bulletin, which includes updating placards and AFM sections as well as conducting a TKS systems test.
