Red Arrows Show Interrupted By Light Aircraft

Small plane enters restricted airshow airspace, forces show to pause in safe area

A light aircraft flew into restricted airspace at the Eastbourne Airshow in the United Kingdom and interrupted a Red Arrow airshow display. The aircraft flew into the airshow airspace early during the Red Arrow's show and they were instructed to hold in a safe area until the light aircraft cleared the zone.

The aircraft was positively identified and the CAA was immediately notified so that they may take appropriate action against the pilot. An airshow spokesperson told the BBC that the aircraft "had no approval or clearance to be in the air space."

The spokesperson added that "the aircraft was identified very early in the Red Arrows display and they were held in safe airspace until the light aircraft had left the restricted area. The Red Arrows then resumed their display in safety," he said.

2004 is the 40th display season for the Red Arrows and Eastbourne had been promised a special flying display to mark the event.
