Australian RC Airplane Nabbed In Jail Break-In

"Amusing Test For Surveillance Systems"

Wanting to get out of jail is certainly understandable. But what about someone who breaks in? Especially if that someone uses a remote-controlled model airplane to do it?

That's just what happened in Sydney, Australia, Tuesday. The plane (file photo, right), which had a one-meter wingspan, landed between two cell blocks at the Silverwater Remand and Reception Center near Sydney's Olympic Park.

"It provided a good and perhaps an amusing test for surveillance systems and security staff but there could also potentially be a more serious aspect to this event such as a trial to introduce contraband into the jail," said Security and Investigations Cmdr. Don Rodgers.

No drugs were found onboard the R/C. Nor was anything else, for that matter. So, with typical Aussie aplomb, Cmdr. Rogers said the pilot of the model airplane is most welcome to come claim his plane. Anytime. Check in at the... front gate.
