Two Planes Must Be Removed From Graceland By April, 2015
Two private planes that once belonged to Elvis which have been on display at Graceland in Memphis for 30 years are now being displayed in aviation classified ads ... and that's making Elvis fans none too happy.
Lisa Marie, a highly customized Convair 880, and Hound Dog II, a Lockheed Jetstar, have been listed on the Controller.com website, according to the UK newspaper The Mail. The sale is part of an ongoing dispute between the planes' owner and the Presley estate.
The owner is OKC Partnership in Memphis, which bought the planes after Presley's death and agreed to place them at Graceland for a cut of the ticket sales. Last April, it was announced that OKC would have a year to remove the planes from the grounds of Graceland.
That announcement followed the purchase last November of Elvis Presley Enterprises, along with the merchandising and music rights by New York-based Authentic Brands Group, which plans to build a 450-room hotel, theater and restaurant complex with a planned opening date of August, 2015. Those plans were approved last month by the Memphis city council.
Television station WGHP reports that the ads for the planes, neither of which is airworthy, do not list a sales price, but that "serious offers" will be considered. The ads also state that the owner will consider a package deal for both airplanes.
