Two Lost When Mooney Impacts Virginia Home

Woman In House Critically Burned

A Sunday morning plane downing resulted in the loss of both men onboard, and critical burns to a third person on the ground.

FAA spokeswoman Holly Baker told local media a Mooney M20M (file photo of type, below) impacted a home near Richmond, VA around 1020 EDT Sunday, shortly after the single-engine aircraft departed Chesterfield County Airport (FCI).

The home is located about four miles northeast from the airport, in the suburb of Midlothian. Low cloud cover was reported in the area at the of the accident, though officials aren't sure what role weather may have played. The aircraft, registered to a Delaware company, was on an IFR flight plan to Franklin Municipal Airport (FKN.)

Authorities have not released the identities of the two men onboard the Mooney. A 22-year-old woman inside the home was able to escape, but suffered unknown injuries and severe burns.

State police are assisting investigators from the FAA and NTSB.
