ANN Exclusive: Boyer Prepared To Announce Retirement

Official Announcement Expected Monday

ANN has learned Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association President Phil Boyer is reportedly prepared to announce his retirement from his 17 year tenure as the leader of the organization considered to be the “voice of General Aviation.”

An official announcement is expected Monday morning from the AOPA headquarters in Frederick, MD, but early reports say Boyer expects to remain at his post for most of the remainder of 2008, stepping down shortly before or after the AOPA Expo in November.

ANN has learned the person expected to replace Boyer as head of the organization is President and CEO of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, Craig L. Fuller. Fuller is a well respected voice in Washington and served as Assistant to the President for Cabinet Affairs for President Ronald Reagan and then later as Chief of Staff to Vice President George H. W. Bush.

Appropriate to the position at AOPA, Fuller is also certified as an instrument rated private pilot.

Look forward to more news from ANN as official announcements are made over the coming days.
