AFGE Readies For Contract Negotiations At TSA On 'Inside Government'

Lays Out Plans For Negotiations On Local Washington, DC Radio Program

Officials of AFGE laid out their negotiation strategy for TSO's on the "Inside Government" radio program, which airs on AM1500 WFED in Washington, DC. The union is preparing to negotiate a contract for Transportation Security Officers (TSOs). The show, which originally aired on Friday, July 1, is now available on demand.

AFGE National President John Gage discussed the union's historic win in the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) union election and the next steps in negotiating a contract for TSOs. Gage also addressed the most important issues for TSOs including better workplace conditions and eliminating the "Performance Accountability and Standards System pay-for-performance model."

Also on the podcast, AFGE TSA Local 777 President Ricky McCoy discussed the impact of AFGE's TSA election win on TSOs in Illinois and Wisconsin. McCoy said bringing the nearly 2,200 federal TSA employees under a collective bargaining agreement sends a strong message to state legislators particularly in Wisconsin. The legislature there has passed laws limiting the poser of the state's  employee unions. McCoy said the message is that legislators cannot go after the state employee unions and then move up to the federal level. McCoy says the message to the Wisconsin state legislature is is "we're going to come at you as a whole to let you know we're all in this together."
