SAFE Co-Sponsors MyGoFlight’s EFB Challenge Competition Series

'iPad Takes Flight' Seminar Helps Pilots Know Their Tablet Devices

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) will be co-sponsoring the ongoing MyGoFlight seminar and competition series, designed to help pilots learn to best use their tablet devices in a paperless cockpit. Named the iPad Takes Flight! EFB Challenge Edition, each seminar challenges participating pilots to correctly answer realistic inflight questions using his or her tablet and aviation software. Four leaders will be selected in each seminar to participate in a Jeopardy-style quiz show to determine the winner.

“This fun competition is to give all pilots the chance to take full advantage of iPads and other tablets which are revolutionizing flight planning and navigating,” said SAFE Executive Director Doug Stewart. “The bottom line is to help pilots make the paper to paperless cockpit transition.”

Stewart observed that the iPad Takes Flight! EFB Challenge Edition fits perfectly into SAFE’s mission, which is to create a safer aviation environment through education.

Four iPad Takes Flight! EFB Challenge Edition seminars and contests will be held at AirVenture 2014 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The challenges will be Monday, July 28, Wednesday, July 30 and Friday, August 1 in Forum 6, and on Saturday, August 2 at 2pm in the AOPA seminar area. Prizes will be awarded in all contests, and the winner of each session will be eligible to compete in MyGoFlight’s regional, then national championship at the 2015 AirVenture.

After the AirVenture 2014 seminars and contests, the competition will continue nationwide, conducted by MyGoFlight and local chapters of the IMC Club, which focuses on improving pilot instrument flying skills. A schedule of seminars and winners can be followed online  or on Facebook.

“SAFE’s co-sponsorship is awesome,” said Charles Schneider, CEO of MyGoFlight. “We hope SAFE’s nearly 1,000 members, which includes many of the nation’s top flight instructors, will help spread the word and increase participation in these seminars and contests not only at AirVenture but throughout the year.  Instructors can work with pilots who will have seen what iPad proficiency looks like and help them to make their flying simpler, more fun and safer by mastering this device.”

Flight instructors, flight schools, military units and commercial operators are also welcome to deliver seminars and contests throughout the country.

Other co-sponsors of the MyGoFlight EFB Challenge include the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), Flying Magazine, IMC Clubs, Lightspeed, Redbird Flight Simulations and Independence Aviation. Other organizations wishing to co-sponsor the iPad Takes Flight! EFB Challenge Edition should contact Schneider by phone or email.
