Genesys Aerosystems Acquires Chelton Flight Systems And S-TEC Corporations

Genesys Commits To Maintaining, Improving S-TEC Autopilots And Chelton Avionics

By Tom Woodward

Genesys has acquired Chelton, originally founded in 1997 and the first developer of the first FAA certified synthetic vision flight display and S-TEC flight systems, founded in 1978 and offering a full line of autopilots for airplanes and helicopters, previously DBA Cobham Avionics, in a management buyout.

Genesys Aerosystems of Mineral Wells, Texas announced at AirVenture that they surpassed 1,500 FAA and international Supplemental Type Certificates (STC's) for its S-TEC line of autopilot systems, covering nearly every make and model of General Aviation (GA) airplanes and helicopters and about half of all US autopilots certified.

Jamie Luster, Director of Sales and Marketing said the new company is now 100 days old but expects no changes to senior management. According to Jamie, Genesys will introduce a new part 25 certified autopilot, the S-TEC 5000 in 2016. The S-TEC 5000 will incorporate a 'level-type' mode button that will allow the aircraft to fly straight and level when pushed from various modes of flight. The S-TEC 5000 is designed for the fixed-wing market. In addition, they are now delivering the HeliSAS, an autopilot for rotorcraft.
