Illinois Airports In Line For $1.4 Million In Federal AIP Funds

Grants Announced By Representative Cheri Bustos, Senator Dick Durbin

U.S. Representative Cheri Bustos (D-IL-17) and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced $1,412,945 in federal funding that will go toward infrastructure improvements and upgrades at the Quad City International Airport and Chicago Rockford International Airport. The grants were awarded through the FAA.

“Airports and reliable air service are crucial to the economic success of Illinois communities large and small,” said Durbin. “If we are going to be a great leader in the world economy, we need an infrastructure to support it. Investments in these Illinois airports will allow them to continue to transport passengers safely and efficiently.”

“I’m pleased to announce these important investments in our region’s airports,” Bustos, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said in a news release. “Today’s grants will help our airports safely meet our region’s infrastructure and transportation needs, today and into the future.”

The following investments in Illinois’ transportation infrastructure were made under this announcement:

  • Quad City International Airport (Moline, IL): The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Rock Island County has been awarded $765,000 in funding to rehabilitate the pavement on the airport’s existing taxiway. In May, Durbin and Bustos announced another $650,000 in federal funding that will fund the construction of a 400 foot taxiway connector to serve Runway 13/31 and enhance safety at Quad City International Airport.
  • Chicago Rockford International Airport (Rockford, IL): The Greater Rockford Airport Authority has been awarded $647,945 in funding to construct a 30,000 square yard cargo apron needed to meet the existing demands of the airport’s cargo operators.
