AD: Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau Gliders

AD NUMBER: 2012-01-02

PRODUCT: Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau GmbH Model Discus 2cT gliders
SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2012-01-02
ACTION: Final Rule

Schempp-Hirth Duo Discus Model

SUMMARY: This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as small cracks which have been found on engine pylons in the area of the lower engine support that have not been detected during the standard daily inspection. This condition, if not detected and corrected, could lead to an engine pylon failure resulting in loss of control of the glider. The FAA is issuing this AD to require actions to address the unsafe condition on these products.

DATES: This AD is effective February 15, 2012
