Angel Flight Plane Raised From Pond In New York

Body Of One Person On Board The Airplane Is Still Missing

The wreckage of a Piper PA-34 that had been operating as an Angel Flight on Friday when it went down in upstate New York has been raised from the pond in which it became submerged. Authorities are still searching for the body of Frank Amerosa of Utica, NY, who was being flown home from Boston following treatment for brain cancer. The remains of his wife Evelyn and pilot John Campbell were recovered over the weekend.

The Associated Press reports that, according to Fulton County, NY, Sheriff Thomas Lorey, the search for Mr. Amerosa will be narrowed to the area surrounding the pond, which will be drained as part of the search.

Some wreckage from the airplane has been located as much as five miles from the accident scene. The flight departed from Hanscom Field in Bedford, MA, and was en route to Rome, NY when it went down about 1700 EDT Friday.

NTSB spokesman Eric Weiss said that the fuselage of the airplane was pulled from the water and will be taken to a secure hangar in Delaware where the initial inspection will begin. Other debris from the airplane have already been transported to that location. Campbell did not declare an emergency or make any indication that anything was wrong with the airplane before it went down.
