Modern Aviation Seattle Expands

FBO Offers BFI VIP TLC

Modern Aviation, the growing FBO network platform founded in 2017 and funded by Tiger Infrastructure Partners, has completed a $25-million development project and FBO renovation at its Boeing Field/King County International Airport location in Seattle, Washington.

The two-phase undertaking comprised the construction of a 40,000-square-foot hangar and a subsequent, 24,500-square-foot hangar paired with a 7,500-square-foot office building.

Eric Schneider, General Manager of Modern Aviation, BFI said of the project, “These new and renovated facilities are a true reflection of the Modern Aviation brand as we serve the current and future needs of the aviation community.”

In addition to the newly constructed hangars, Modern Aviation’s FBO terminal now provides expanded meeting space, the latest web conferencing capabilities, a new pilot’s lounge, private bathrooms with showers, computers for flight-planning, U.S. Customs services, and additional amenities.

Modern Aviation’s ramp, the largest on Boeing Field, accommodates private aircraft, business-jet and air-charter operations, medical flights, U.S. military aircraft, and even Presidential visits—as the ramp area incorporates new security and access technologies and is sufficiently large and robust to host a 747.

Sustainability features were integrated throughout the new  facilities. Examples include the use of special materials to greatly reduce heat island effects on the hangar’s roofs, LED lighting, water-saving measures, the use of compostable materials and recycling, drought resistant landscape elements, electric vehicle charging stations, and electric aircraft towing vehicles.

Boeing Field (BFI) is approximately five miles south of downtown Seattle. The facility is owned and operated by King County and marks the southernmost boundary of the Seattle Metropolitan Area. The airfield is named for William E. Boeing, founder of the aerospace titan, and served as Seattle’s primary airport from 1928 until the opening of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in 1944. Today, the airport is used primarily for the development, maintenance, and testing of Boeing aircraft, as well as general aviation and cargo operations.
