Iberia's New LCC Has A Name... And A Chairman

ClickAir To Launch Over Pilot Protests

Last week we told you about angst among the flight crews at Spain's Iberia Airlines over the company's plans to launch a low-cost carrier based in Barcelona. The pilots had threatened a week-long strike because of their concerns about job security and pay.

In spite of that, Iberia and its four partners in this venture have gone ahead with plans to launch what executives now call ClickAir... and has even hired an interim chairman.

Romero de Avila Gonzalez-Alba will run ClickAir until a permanent CEO is named. That could take several months.

As far as pilots' plans for a week-long strike... they called it all off earlier this month after winning promises of job and wage security.

Those pilots did not get the raise they wanted, though... and there's now talk of more labor grumblings at Iberia... some of them connected to the planned launch of the new LCC.
