Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Leave Vegas...

Candidates' Visits Triggers TFR Just As NBAA Is Closing

If you're headed out of Las Vegas Thursday, make sure you bring a lunch to the airport. You may be waiting quite awhile. Both presidential candidates will be in town. Just as NBAA is packing up and all those business aircraft are leaving, Vegas will come under a TFR.

The Temporary Flight Restriction will be in effect from 0935 until 1205 local and covers virtually every airport from Lake Meade to the California state line.

President Bush will be in Las Vegas for a GOP rally, while the First Lady, Laura Bush, and Democratic nominee John Kerry attend the AARP convention there. The president and Mrs. Bush will fly to Reno (NV) when they depart Las Vegas.

The NBAA convention, one of the biggest aviation events of the year, officially ends at 1600 local on Thursday, although aircraft operators generally depart throughout the day. Well, at least they used to.

Be prepared... more TFRs for Las Vegas and other parts of Nevada are almost certainly on the way.
