Abingdon Foundation Announces WAI Scholarship Winner

Chelsea Montgomery Wins All Expenses Paid Trip To Women In Aviation, International Conference

The Abingdon Foundation congratulates Chelsea Montgomery, the 2020 winner of the It's About Time Women in Aviation International scholarship.

As with previous winners, Montgomery, 21, has been flown to the conference, taking place this week in Orlando, Florida. She was given accommodations at the conference hotel and a full conference attendee pass.

“The idea behind our scholarship program is to provide opportunities, not hand out money. Chelsea will be escorted to various events and introduced to key players in the aviation industry, courtesy of several Abingdon Foundation board members and volunteers. The true value of this scholarship is the connections the winner walks away with at the end of the event,” said President and Founder Abingdon Mullin.

Montgomery is a flight student in Phoenix, Arizona, and created an imaginative “ Skybox,” which could be adapted to all STEAM fields and then provided to people beginning on their career path.

“By receiving a STEAM “care package” filled with items pertinent to their expressed passion, my hope is that it will spark imaginations and encourage women, a historically underrepresented group in aviation and other STEAM fields, to take the next steps in achieving their dream,” Montgomery stated in her application.

Abingdon Foundation believes the time is right for women everywhere to evolve their passions into their own unique expressions of careers and lifestyles unrestricted by traditions, glass ceilings or any other limitations. The Abingdon Foundation strives to influence, encourage and embolden women in their pursuits of extraordinary lives through scholarships, community outreach and networking opportunities.
