AeroSports Update: Vectren Dayton Air Show Adds More Action

Air Show Announces U.S. Navy Leap Frogs, Navy Band, And Navy Week

Over the last few months we’ve published several reports of airshows being canceled; some just for this year and others with no idea if they will ever be back. And sadly, the prospects for airshows in the U.K. looks even worse. However, it looks like the Vectren Dayton Air show is going to be an example of how to get it done.

Vectren Dayton Air Show officials announced the addition of the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs and Navy Band Rhode Island Sound to the 2016 show. These exciting performers will join the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor and TORA TORA TORA announced earlier. The 42nd annual show, a Dayton summer tradition, will be held on June 18th and 19th at the Dayton International Airport.

Last appearing at Dayton in 2004, the Leap Frogs are the parachute demonstration team of the U.S. Navy. It consists of active-duty personnel drawn from Naval Special Warfare (NSW), including Navy SEALS and Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen (SWCC). After performances, the Leap Frogs will sign autographs and answer questions about what it's like to be a Navy SEAL or SWCC. The 15 member team will travel to Dayton from their Naval Base in San Diego, CA.

The Navy Band Northeast Rhode Island Sound will perform each day of the show prior to and after feature flying. The band performs a wide variety of musical styles including traditional band literature, popular standards and patriotic favorites. The band is popular with audiences of all ages. The eight person ensemble is from Naval Station Newport, RI.

The Department of Defense has also announced Dayton, Ohio will host Navy Week June 13th - June 19th, 2016.  Navy Week - Dayton will coincide with the Dayton Air Show and will focus a variety of events, equipment and personnel for a week-long series of engagements with the public, key influencers and organizations representing all sectors of the community.

In addition to the Blue Angels, Leap Frogs and Navy Band Northeast, the Navy will bring in as many other activities as possible to Dayton. Divers, Seabees, EOD teams, crews of ships and submarines, hometown Sailors, medical personnel, environmental displays, USS Constitution Sailors and equipment, and Navy recruiting assets are all possible participants in a Navy Week program.

“The addition of the Leap Frogs, Navy Band Northeast and Navy Week are more examples of the incredible show we have in 2016” stated Michael Emoff, Chairman of the USATS Board of Trustees. “Dayton is proud to host an impressive lineup of naval assets. Truly an event that the entire family will enjoy." Emoff added.
