Where To Land

Virgin USA Close To Decision On Hub

Where will Richard Branson's American budget carrier land?

Answer: Not Boston or Dulles.

Virgin USA is looking for a hub in this country and Branson, the airline's founder, says it won't be either of those airports. Instead, he named New York and San Francisco as finalists.

But, strangely enough, Branson's spokeswoman, Lori Levin, said that may not be the case.

"You've got a broad statement from our chairman, but at the end of the day Fred Reid will be heading up this airline in the states, not Richard Branson," Levin told the Boston Globe. "Right now were worried about raising the equity, finding the investors and making it the best airline we can."

Branson indeed appears to have bigger fish to fry. Being from another country, he needs partners to run Virgin USA -- he can only own 25-percent of the company. He's also shopping for aircraft, holding talks with Boeing and Airbus.
