E&S EP-1000CT Certificated For Civil Aviation Training

Computer Firm Gets JAA Cert For Simulator

Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. says its EP-1000CT visual system has been awarded its first Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) STD-1A-Level D certification, the highest accreditation for civil aviation simulators.

The dual certification, which was completed by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation of Germany (LBA) at the Lufthansa Flight Training (LFT) Center in Frankfurt, Germany, qualifies the CAE-built A340-300 and Thales-built B767-300 simulators fitted with the EP-1000CT to train commercial airline pilots.

Milestone Achieved

"With these approvals, one of the primary milestones of the original EP-1000CT development program that began in May 2001 has been achieved," said E&S Commercial Simulation Vice President and General Manager Richard Flitton. "EP-1000CT and the underlying EP technology has introduced a number of new training and operational benefits to the pilot training industry, and this on-time regulatory approval is a credit to the E&S and customer teams that have contributed to the final product."

This is the first of a number of regulatory approvals of EP-1000CT that are planned for 2003.

"Both the acceptance testing and regulatory approval phases of the EP-1000CT introduction have gone extremely well," said George Schutz, visual system section manager, Lufthansa Flight Training. "We have also been receiving many positive comments about EP-1000CT from our pilot customers and look forward to introducing this exciting product into more of our training programs as the year progresses."
