Tuskegee Airmen Documentary To Broadcast Nationally On PBS

Red Tail Reborn, produced by Cleveland area filmmaker Adam White, has been picked up for national distribution by PBS. Hosted by television star, Michael Dorn, Red Tail Reborn toured the United States shooting a number of rare interviews with the legendary WWII veteran pilots, The Tuskegee Airmen. This emotional documentary tells the tale of the Airmen, the sad lack of knowledge around the country of their existence, and of those who sacrifice to tell their tale. The film will air on PBS stations all over the U.S. starting in February 2008. The film will also be in HD, where available.

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American US military pilots. The documentary chronicles the history of the group as they are segregated from white squadrons, and originally told "black men are cowards," and "not only lacked the mental capacity to command, but courage, as well." Despite America's racism of the era, these men then went on to fight for America in WWII, earning one of the most impressive combat records in American history.

Unfortunately, very few people know about the Airmen's story. Red Tail Reborn goes on to investigate the Red Tail Project, a group of people determined to educate America about these forgotten heroes of history. While touring the country with a restored P-51 Mustang fighter plane painted in homage to the Tuskegee Airmen, the airplane malfunctioned during an air show demonstration, killing the pilot and destroying the aircraft. Now the Red Tail Project fights to rebuild the plane, both for the Tuskegee Airmen and for their departed friend.

Adam White won a regional Emmy in 2005 for his one-hour documentary, The Restorers. The film has been supported by the Tuskegee Airmen community, and boasts a number of rare interviews by the legendary Airmen. The North East Ohio broadcast premiere this past February of Red Tail Reborn garnered over 40,000 viewers in one night.
