Hoping For A SkyCraft SD-1 Minisport? There's Already A Waiting List

Pre-Order Reservations For 2013 Filled Up In Nine Days

The announcement by SkyCraft of plans to produce the SkyCraft SD-1 Minisport LSA in July has led to an order book that is filled through 2013.

SkyCraft said on their blog that production on the SD-1 began last month, and the first completed aircraft is currently undergoing flight testing. SkyCraft says it is operating in full compliance to ASTM standards and expects to have certification to sell the SD-1 as an S-LSA later this summer.

Production began May 13. The SD-1 boasts impressive performance specs; with a 118 mph cruise speed, 1400 fpm climb rate, 39 mph stall speed, and 5 hours of endurance. The price of the SD-1 is set at $54,850. The company says that, combined with its $12/hour operational cost (fuel, oil, and overhaul included) and removable wings, the SD-1 is "the most affordable LSA on the market," according to company literature.

Standard features of the SD-1 Minisport include:

  • Hirth F-23 Dual Ignition, Fuel Injected Engine (1000 hour TBO)
  • Dynon Glass Panel (GPS, synthetic flight, collision avoidance)
  • Integrated Dynon COM Radio (2 channel monitoring, GPS based frequency)
  • Digital Instrument Panel
  • Fuel and Power Management Systems
  • Emergency Locator Transmitter
  • Navigation and Landing Lights
  • Black Leather Seat

Customers can also select from the following options:

  • Tri-Gear or Taildragger Configurations
  • Optional Mode S Transponder
  • Optional Ballistic Parachute

SkyCraft will have both tricycle and taildragger configurations on display this July at Oshkosh AirVenture, which will be the first public appearance of their completed airplanes.
