Airborne 10.19.18: Thunderbird G-LOC, AEA Prepares, Zenith Workshops

Also: Sonaca Aircraft, Enstrom 280FX Sale, Boeing Forecasts Air Cargo Traffic, FlightAware

We now have more information about the tragic accident that took the life of Thunderbird Pilot, Maj. Stephen Del Bagno.

According to USAF investigators, who released their report on the investigation into the April 4 crash at the Nevada Test and Training Range near Nellis Air Force Base, Del Bagno temporarily lost consciousness during a high ‘G’ maneuver and was incapacitated right before his fatal accident last April. Del Bagno, along with five other Thunderbirds, was practicing an aerial maneuver called the High Bomb Burst Rejoin, and flew inverted for about 22 seconds at about 5,500 to 5,700 feet above ground level, where he experienced up to negative two G-forces, according to the report. At NBAA 2018, ANN had the chance to catch up with the incoming president of the AEA, Mike Adamson to find out about what his goals will be for the organization under his leadership. With barely five months to go, Mike is doing his best to take over what has heretofore been an exceptionally well-run organization. Here’s a few of the comments he made during an interview we conducted on Day Two... with the full interview due to be posted on Aero-TV in the near future. One of the most interesting programs at recent fly-ins has been those where folks can get a chance to build a portion of a kit aircraft under the supervision of the manufacturer. It’s a confidence and interest booster, for sure. ANN’s Masako Campbell took this on a few years ago and produced a beautiful CH750 Cruzer rudder in a matter of hours. Now, for the first time, Zenith Aircraft's popular hands-on kit building workshop is coming to the DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase early next month. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
