Maryse Carmichael Takes Command Of The Canadian Snowbirds

An Appropriate Appointment In The Year Of The Centennial Of Women Pilots

On May 6, 2010, Maryse Carmichael, who flew with the Snowbirds in 2001 and 2002, will assume command of the squadron in the year of the Centennial of Licensed Women Pilots.

Born in Quebec City, Maryse became an Air Cadet at 13 and got her pilot's license when she was still a teenager. After joining the Air Force and completing her training, she had a distinguished career before becoming the first woman to be part of the Snowbirds precision flying team. The website heroines.ca reports that Maryse was promoted to the rank of Major while flying with the Snowbirds, and later became the team's Executive Officer. She will now command the unit.

"My advice to other women is to move forward and don’t be afraid," said Maryse.
