Gets Woman Arrested At Florida Airport
And now the award for Miss
Congeniality...
Jayne Thorne, a 43-year old resident of Long Beach (NY), won't
be flying Delta Song anymore -- not after the way the airline says
she behaved at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FL)
earlier this month. And it all has to do with her little dog,
Cutie.
Authorities say Ms. Thorne just couldn't leave little Cutie in
its carrier. She reportedly kept taking the dog out while Flight
2551 was in the air, in spite of regulations that clearly said
Cutie had to stay caged.
Eventually, flight attendants moved Ms. Thorne to the front of
the cabin while Cutie, alas, was left alone in the carrier near her
original seat. Ms. Thorne didn't like that, according to the
airline, so she became abusive, assailing the flight crew with what
the captain called a "potty mouth."
Ms. Thorne, apparently the last person in America to learn that
you don't win an argument with the crew of an aircraft in flight,
was met at the gate in Fort Lauderdale by local police. An airline
employee told her she wouldn't be welcome on board Song for her
return flight to New York.
Ms. Thorne's reaction was reportedly in line with what you'd now
come to expect. She yelled at the employee, using what police say
is language that would have made a sailor blush. She refused to
lower her voice, in spite of the presence of small children in the
gate area.
So police tried to handcuff her. They say she reacted by trying
to kick deputies. She was hustled to a waiting patrol car, where
she kicked the rear window so hard that officers say she cracked
it. Ms. Thorne and Cutie spent the night behind bars -- Cutie at
the animal shelter, its owner in the local calaboose. Both were
released the next day, ensuring that Ms. Thorne will be available
for her appointment as leader of the Friends of Delta Song fan
club.
