Participation In WET To Improve Traffic Flow Patterns
Aero-News learned Monday that Greg
Murray, Weather and Flight Planning, Assistant Manager and Brittany
Mitchell, Aviation Meteorologist for Air Routing, have recently
joined the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Collaborative
Decision Making (CDM) Weather Evaluation Sub-Team (WET) as Subject
Matter Experts. Mr. Murray and Ms. Mitchell will act as
participants in face to face meetings regarding their specific
areas of expertise.
Members of WET consist of meteorologists from the FAA, major
airlines and government contractors. Mr. Murray, Ms.
Mitchell, and one representative from the NBAA GA desk are the only
non-airline/government members out of the total 30 active members
of WET.
The WET is currently working on an improved Collaborative
Convective Forecast Product (CCFP), which shows potential storm
activity areas and serves as the official forecast for traffic flow
management. The WET is also working on draft requirements for a
terminal, TRACON, or 'hub' area forecast tool to allow better ATC
planning in terminal areas with major flows.
"Working with WET will give both, Greg and me, a unique
opportunity to be included in the development of the newest tools
available for air traffic management" says Ms. Mitchell. "This also
allows Air Routing International to be abreast of the latest
products used to improve the planning process for traffic managers
when addressing a weather constrained area."
