Victim Of AirVenture Taxiway Accident Identified

Gary Palmer Was President Of Ottawa EAA Chapter

Aero-News has learned the victim in Sunday's tragic taxiway accident at AirVenture 2006 was Gary Palmer, president of the Experimental Aircraft Association's Chapter 245 in Ottawa, Canada.

Palmer was a passenger in the RV-6 homebuilt (file photo of type, above) that was struck from behind by a WWII-era Grumman TBM Avenger, as both aircraft were taxiing for departure from Wittman Field Sunday.

An autopsy performed Monday determinded Palmer died from injuries caused by the Avenger's propeller.

The pilot of the homebuilt, Donald Reed, was not injured. The RV-6 is a two-place plane, with seating in a side by side configuration.

Neither of the two people onboard the Avenger were injured. Pilot Paul Redlich was seated at the front of the Avenger, with his wife Diane in the rear seat.

No charges have been filed in the accident, pending the outcome of investigations by the FAA, NTSB, and local authorities.

The staff of Aero-News extends our condolences and sympathies to the persons involved in this tragic accident.
