Drunk Driver Conducts 'Braking Tests' On BVI Runway

Ohio Motorist Doing Doughnuts... For The FAA

After a late-night "spin" on a snowy runway last month, an Ohio motorist was charged with drunken driving, trespassing with a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, defiant trespass, and two other traffic violations.

Twenty-four year-old Michael Montgomery of Streetsboro, OH was observed by a deputy, speeding and doing doughnuts on the runway at Beaver County Airport (BVI) with no lights on, at about 1:30 am on November 22.

Ignoring the deputy's orders to stop, Montgomery proceeded to an FBO parking lot, nearly falling down as he exited his vehicle, the Beaver County Times said.

Questioned by the deputy in regard to his presence on the airport, Montgomery claimed he had authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct braking tests on the runway.

Taken to the nearby Chippewa police station, Montgomery was uncooperative and refused to give officers his name and other information, instead demanding to call a lawyer.

Beaver County Airport Manager Beth LaValle was called by deputies to verify Montgomery's story, and said he had no authority to be on the runway.

A subsequent blood test showed Montgomery to be intoxicated over four times the legal limit, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.357 percent.
