Bank Robbery Suspect Who Fired At Police Helo Caught

Son, There Are Some Things Ya Just DON'T Do...

Police in Columbus, OH say they've got the man who robbed a bank Wednesday afternoon... and who then allegedly fired gunshots at a police helicopter tracking him.

It all started when the man entered a Huntington National Bank branch just before 5 pm. At first, he got away with the loot... but police soon were on his tail, after hearing a dye pack explode.

Officers on the ground called in the chopper to assist in the search. While witnesses helped police track the suspect to behind a nearby grocery store, officers in the helicopter had a birds-eye view of the proceedings.

That's when polcie say the suspect started firing at the helo. As officers onboard returned fire, the helicopter's pilot landed to avoid becoming a target.

There were no injuries in the melee -- and not a half-hour after it all began, the suspect was in custody.
