From Fantasy to Reality via First Ever eVTOL Commute

Meet the Jetsons

Jetson—the Swedish technology company with the stated, long-term goal of democratizing flight—has completed what may be the world’s first-ever eVTOL commute with its single-seater eVTOL aircraft.

The vehicle, dubbed Jetson ONE, was piloted by Jetson company co-founder Tomasz Patan, who states, “We firmly believe the ‘eVTOL’ is the future for mass transportation. We are committed to making this a reality.”

The June 2022 flight was conducted in Italy’s Tuscany region along a pre-planned route that the Jetson ONE eVTOL traversed in 88% less elapsed time than an automobile.

The race-car inspired Jetson ONE was unveiled, fittingly, by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco on Thursday 09 June 2022. The aircraft’s lightweight aluminum space-frame and a carbon-Kevlar composite body are borne aloft by four, twin-rotor, electric, thrust-assemblies. Power is supplied by by a high-discharge lithium-ion battery capable of sustaining flight for a maximum duration of twenty-minutes. In concordance with its appellation, the Jetson ONE is a one-person vehicle.

Peter Ternstrom, who along with Tomasz Patan founded Jetson in 2017, said of piloting the Jetson ONE: “The flight stabilization system we developed makes flight super easy. We can make anyone a pilot in less than five minutes.”

Ternstrom’s assertions are substantiated by Jetson ONE’s engineering, which comprises complete propulsion redundancy; triple-redundant flight computers; a ballistic parachute; a safety cell chassis; crumple-zones; lidar aided obstacle and terrain avoidance; hands free hover and emergency hold functions; propeller guards; and a protective composite seat with harness.

By proving the feasibility of near-term eVTOL air taxis, Jetson ONE’s Tuscany demonstration flight marks a significant milestone for the urban air mobility industry. Notwithstanding the fact that it’s a one-person vehicle, Jetson ONE signals to consumers and operators alike that the eVTOL air-taxi industry’s requisite technologies are ready for implementation as soon as regulations and infrastructure are established.
