Flying Aviation Expo Decides To Put The Event On Hold

Exploring 'New Opportunities" With AOPA Regional Events

The Flying Aviation Expo in Palm Beach, CA planned for later this year has been put on hold by its organizer and principal sponsor, Scheyden Precision Eyewear while exploring new opportunities with AOPA’s regional events.

"After three wonderful years amid the picturesque, sun-filled backdrop of the Coachella Valley in Palm Springs, the Aviation Expo is on hold until further notice.," Scheyden said in a media release. "The needed participation and sponsorship investments are not quite where they need to be to sustain the show at this time. The 2016 show that was moved to the Palm Springs International Airport was a beautifully run event that still has tremendous potential for the future of aviation events in the Western region."

Jeff and Vivienne Herold, owners of Scheyden Eyewear, took over the third annual show in an attempt to resurrect a grand aviation event in Palm Springs. It was the only one of its kind held in the fall season and on the West Coast, that so many pilots were familiar with during the AOPA Summit days. Along with Andrea Berry, their show director, they experienced three wonderful days that included brilliant speakers, the latest in modern aircraft, and to top it all off some of the best parties that the aviation industry has ever experienced.

“Most of us know that to have a successful aviation event, we must get the heavyweight leaders in the industry to participate,” said Jeff Herold, CEO. “After many positive and constructive conversations with the highest ranking officers of AOPA, we have decided to explore opportunities with some of their regional events, all the while knowing that Palm Springs is ready and waiting for that wonderful three-day event to potentially return in the future. We will always have the support of Flying magazine and so many of the other aviation industry speakers and exhibitors, should this event move to the forefront again.”

“What Jeff and the whole Aviation Expo team accomplished with the show at the Palm Springs Airport this past fall was incredible,” said Stephen Pope, Flying Editor-in-Chief. “West Coast pilots deserve a world-class aviation event like this one, and Flying remains committed to supporting the show in every way we can if and when it returns to Palm Springs, or in whatever form it takes in the future.”

The growth of general aviation is the foundation for all of the aforementioned events, and the Aviation Expo in Palm Springs is no different. It’s a chance for the fraternity of pilots in the Western region to socialize, continue education, and engage with manufacturers and their latest technology. The Aviation Expo would like to thank its previous volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, contractors, the city of Palm Springs, Palm Springs resorts and hotels, Tom Nolan and his team at the Palm Springs International Airport and all those that played a role in helping put on this prestigious aviation event- the support is a grand gesture for the growth and passion of general aviation.
