Urges Reporting Of Airplane Noise They Say Is Disturbing To Them
County officals in Laguna Beach, CA say that residents of the city should direct their complaints about airplane noise directly to the FAA.
The city has posted on its website contact information for the FAA, and tells residents that it should report incidents of low-flying aircraft directly to the agency.
"The FAA regulates the altitude, speed, direction, or location of aircraft in flight. To report Low Flying Aircraft, contact the local FAA Flight Standards District Office in Long Beach. If you have a complaint about aircraft noise, email the FAA’s Noise Ombudsman at 9-AWA-NoiseOmbudsman@faa.gov." the city posted on its website.
"It is important to provide specifics regarding your complaint, including dates and times of the aircraft generating the complaint. Flight tracks can be checked using John Wayne Airport’s web-based aircraft flight tracking system at www.ocair.com/communityrelations/flighttracking/. Information available includes airline, aircraft type, altitude and flight track."
Councilman Robert Zur Schmiede told the Los Angeles Times "One of the things that helps us with the FAA is when we have data points. The way we get data points is when people call and complain or email and complain."
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told the paper that the agency has not made any changes in flight paths into or out of John Wayne Airport, and does not plan to do so with the implementation of NextGen.
Laguna Beach Mayor Pro Tem Toni Iseman and Councilman Zur Schmiede said they have formed a subcommittee to study the issue, and are working with U.S. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R) and city staff to respond to residents' concerns.
