Updated GPU Offers More Power, Digital Output Meters

Compatible With Many Piston, Turboprop, And Jet Aircraft

Audio Authority Corporation of Lexington, Kentucky has upgraded its Flight Model 2860A Ground Power Unit (GPU). This upgraded model now provides up to 60-amps continuous, 28-volt DC power from an ordinary 120-volt AC wall receptacle, providing provides ample ground power for most piston, turboprop, and jet aircraft up to 12,500 lbs.

The device has been tested with a wide variety of aircraft including Cessna, Piper, and Cirrus piston singles; Meridian, TBM, PC12, Mustang, CJs, Lear 31A, King Air, and Twin Commanders. Other design improvements include digital output meters for both voltage and current, a detachable front-panel output cable, and nylon bumper/cleats to provide protection and convenient input and output cord storage.

The 2860A GPU represents a dramatic departure in ground power design for aircraft owners, maintenance facilities, dealers, FBOs, and aircraft manufacturers. Its lightweight, easily portable design utilizes the latest high-efficiency switching-mode power technology to provide massive
amounts of stable, noise-free DC power that perfectly replicates the in-flight electrical environment. Common uses include:

  • Power for a thorough pre-flight inspection and battery top-off.
  • Cockpit procedures training, familiarity and practice.
  • Avionics testing, programming, and database updates.
  • Cabin heating and ventilation.
  • Entertainment systems.
  • Aircraft systems troubleshooting and maintenance.

This new generation GPU is designed as a practical alternative to large, expensive start carts, battery chargers, and other power systems designed primarily for engine starts. It will safely power the most delicate airframe electronics with laboratory-grade DC without risk of costly damage to today's sophisticated avionics and integrated flight decks, instruments, and electrical equipment. The company says the  2860A GPU is designed to industrial quality standards with forced air-cooling and an all-steel case.

The new 2860A is priced at just $1,095 with a 14-day return policy and a 1 year limited warranty. That's $35 less than the 50-amp model it replaces. Quantity and commercial discounts are also available.
