Draco Lives! (In Miniature)

RC Model of Near-Legendary STOL Turbo-Prop Hits The Model Market

The GA community was all agog for a period o time at the exploits of Mike Patey and a one of a kind upgrade of a STOL aircraft into something of a 2500 lb Super-STOL bird... complete with a massive turbo-prop engine.

Debuting at the EAA AirVenture Fly-In at Oshkosh in July 2018, Draco was an immediate hit, a YouTube sensation, and the winner of many a STOL competition.

But... a takeoff accident at the Reno-Stead airport in September of 2019 put Draco down... once and for all, unsalvageable, and thought never to be seen again... until now.

The folks at Horizon Hobby have resurrected Draco -- albeit in model form... this time as an exquisitely detailed six foot span RC aircraft that leaves little to the imagination... with exhausting detail shown throughout the airframe. An electrically powered offering, the Horizon Hobby Draco comes in a complete ready to fly version, as well as a "Plug and Play" version for those who already have the necessary radio gear for an easy installation in the aircraft.

The detail is significant... from serious STOL suspension to all manner of proper aircraft fittings and LED lights all over the aircraft. The effect is beautiful and Mike Patey appears REALLY pleased with the result. Depending on the equipment you may already own or not, the Draco is anywhere from a $600 to $1200 investment... but make no mistake, Draco in any size, is no toy.
