Baron Services Releases Mobile Link For iPAD/Android

Displaying XM Data Is Now A Possibility

The Highly anticipated Mobile Link device is not available for purchase online at the EAA Airventure event in Oshkosh, WI, Baron Services announced today. The Moble Link allows users of smart phones and tablets, including iPhone, iPad and Android devices, to view XM WX Satellite Weather data.

The Mobile Link itself serves to connect an XM WX data receiver with mobile devices.  A compatible third-party app is required to view XM WX data. Currently, seven companies have announced plans to deliver apps with XM WX support through the Mobile Link device.

These include:

  • Avilution (Android)
  • Digital Cyclone (iOS)
  • FlightPrep (iOS)
  • ForeFlight (iOS)
  • GlobalNavSource (iOS)
  • Hilton Software WingX (iOS)
  • RMS Technology (Android)

The Mobile Link is compatible with XM WX receivers from WxWorx (all three generations, including the new WxWorx receiver), and Heads Up Technologies’  FAA-certified receivers, models XMD075 and XMD076.  The Mobile Link will require a USB connection specific to the XM receiver being used.  A cable for this connection is not included, and can be purchased separately.  The connection from the Mobile Link to the smart device is Wifi.

‘Our experience providing weather data for the XM WX service made clear the interest pilots had in using smart phones and tablets as electronic flight bags.  Weather is an obvious component of that,’ said Robert O. Baron, President and CEO of Baron Services.  ‘Providing a way for our partners to support XM WX weather data in their apps was the logical next step for us,  and speaking personally as a pilot, I’m excited to have this device ready for use.’

XM WX data products currently supported by the Mobile Link include:

  • High-Resolution NEXRAD Radar (US, Puerto Rico)
  • High-Resolution Radar (US and Canada)
  • Radar Coverage (US and Canada)
  • Satellite Mosaic
  • Echo Tops
  • METARs
  • TAFs
  • AIRMETs
  • SIGMETs
  • TFRs
  • Winds Aloft (at Altitude)
  • Turbulence
  • Current Icing Product (CIP)
  • Supercooled Large Droplets (SLD)
  • Freezing level
  • PIREPs

Additional aviation data products, including Lightning, County Warnings, Visibility, City Forecasts and Hurricane Tracks, are planned for support in future.  Please note that not all data products may be supported by all app developers.

The Mobile Link carries and introductory price of $199.99.  It is available for purchase online, and also in the XM WX Satellite Weather booth at the EAA Air Venture event.
