Report: ANA Pilot Allowed Flight Attendants To Fly Plane

No Passengers Onboard December 2007 Flight

A pilot with All Nippon Airways' Air Central is accused of allowing two flight attendants to sit in the copilot's seat and handle the controls during a flight in December 2007.

The Yomiuri Shimbun is cited by the Associated Press in reporting the 51-year-old captain has been suspended from flying, for violating company rules.

An airline spokesman, however, said that because the captain had retained control of the twin-turboprop-engined Fokker 50, and no passengers were on board, his actions were not unsafe.

Japan's Construction and Transport Ministry, which was notified Friday of the act, apparently doesn't share that assessment. The agency is expected to order administrative penalties, including its own suspension, for the captain's violations of Japanese Aviation Law.

Gee... remember the old days, when the captain's uniform was all you needed to get girls?
