Certified: Jeppesen Approved By FAA As Internet Information Provider

First Commercial Entity to Gain Qualification

The FAA has certified Jeppesen as the first company to receive the newly created Qualified Internet Communications Provider (QICP) certification and only one of two entities to achieve it. NAIMES, a US government sponsored agency, is the other.

In November 2002, the FAA issued an advisory circular, AC 00-62, titled Internet Communication of Aviation Weather and NOTAMs, the purpose of which was to describe a process and set forth a standard for ensuring that vendors meet or exceed FAA standards for security, reliably and accuracy when disseminating weather and NOTAMs via the Internet. Jeppesen has successfully met or exceeded all of the parameters set forth in AC 00-62.

For the end users of Jeppesen's weather and NOTAMs data, typically pilots and dispatchers, the QICP certification provides an assurance of secure and reliable access to Jeppesen's data. For Jeppesen it means the Internet can now be used to deliver weather and NOTAMs to the many customers using Jeppesen flight planning and operations management systems in support of their FAR part 121 and 135 operations. Previously these operators were not able to use Internet delivered information. QICP certification removes this barrier.

"The fact that Jeppesen is the first and only company to be granted QICP status, amongst many commercial weather and NOTAMs providers, affirms our digital information distribution leadership," said Kevin Collins, senior vice president, Business and General Aviation. "From a larger perspective, the QICP certification affirms Jeppesen's key strategy -- the evolution into a digital information and service provider."

Jeppesen weather and NOTAMs data is accessible from numerous Jeppesen flight planning and operations management applications, including FliteStar, JetPlanner, JetPlan.com and OPSControl.
