FAA Grants TSO Authorization To L-3 For Lynx NGT-9000 MultiLink Surveillance Sys

Touchscreen Dual-Mode 1090 And 978 MHz Mode S Extended Squitter (ES) Transponder Displays ADS-B Traffic And Weather

The FAA has granted TSO authorization to L-3 Aviation Products (L-3 AP) for its Lynx NGT-9000 MultiLink Surveillance System (MSS) models. The Lynx NGT-9000 is the world’s first touchscreen, dual-mode 1090 and 978 MHz Mode S Extended Squitter (ES) transponder that is capable of displaying ADS-B traffic and weather.

“We’re thrilled to begin filling the backlog of orders we’ve received since unveiling our Lynx product earlier this year,” said Larry Riddle, vice president of marketing and sales for business, regional and general aviation for L-3 Aviation Products. “Lynx customers run the gamut from operators of single-engine piston aircraft to operators of medium-size business jets.”

The NGT-9000 is an autonomous unit, requiring only a GPS antenna for its operation, and features an embedded WAAS/GPS position source, as well as the option for L-3’s NextGen Active Traffic enablement. The system has a high-resolution display that serves as both a transponder screen and a multifunction display with moving maps, weather, NOTAMs, TFRs and ADS-B traffic. Mr. Riddle added, “Typically, these capabilities cost tens of thousands of dollars and require multiple boxes. Our Lynx NGT-9000 includes all of these capabilities in an affordable, single-box solution.”

With an intuitive touchscreen display, the NGT-9000 is a form-factor replacement for existing transponders. It supports 1090ES (Mode S Extended Squitter) ADS-B Out and 1090 MHz and 978 MHz (UAT) ADS-B In, which enable ADS-B traffic (ADS-B, ADS-R and TIS-B) and FIS-B data reception. The NGT-9000 also offers the flexibility to display traffic on the unit itself, as well as on other panel-mounted avionics that use the popular ARINC 429, RS-232 or RS-422 protocols.
