Aircraft Had Just Landed

For the second time in as many months, a passenger has managed to open the door of a commercial aircraft on the tarmac and jump to the ground. This time, it was aboard Delta Flight 1047 -- which had just landed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, inbound from Orlando.

Airport authorities say the unidentified man opened the door of the 767 and jumped about 20 feet to the ground. Firefighters and law officers responded from the airport's Concourse E.

A TSA spokesman says the man indeed appeared "agitated" during the 90-minute flight from Orlando, but added the passenger had complied with instructions from the cabin crew during the journey.

When the aircraft got to the gate at Hartsfield, however, the passenger apparently opened a catering door and jumped.

He was taken to Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital, where he's now listed in fair condition. There's no word on what, if any, penalties the man now faces.

Last month, a passenger in Fort Lauderdale jumped from a Continental Airlines flight as it was preparing to takeoff to New Jersey.

Sadly, the story of Troy Rigby -- who was later reported to be paranoid schizophrenic -- had a sad ending in prison, where he suffered a massive heart attack and later died.
