Breitling Backs Huntington Beach Air Show

Becomes Title Sponsor For The SoCal Event

There's a new title sponsor for the Huntington Beach Air Show set for October 21-23. Swiss watch maker Breitling has signed on as the lead sponsor for the event, which will be headlined by the Breitling Jet Team and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

The Breitling Jet Team’s performance at the Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show will mark the end of the team’s successful two-year American Tour with performances at over 30 air shows in the United States and Canada.

“Today, more than ever, Breitling is synonymous with aviation. We perpetuate our longstanding ties with aeronautics by overseeing the restoration of legendary aircraft, operating several exceptional flight teams, and supporting the international elite among pilots and squadrons, as well as by associating with the world’s finest air shows,” said Thierry Prissert, Breitling U.S.A. President. “The Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show is destined to be one of the best air shows in the U.S. and we are excited about sharing Breitling’s passion for aviation with the people of Southern California for years to come.”

In addition to having the Breitling Jet Team perform at the air show, Breitling will also serve as the official timekeeper for this premier event. Breitling’s affiliation with aviation dates back to the early 1930’s when they manufactured on-board chronographs for aircraft cockpits. These instruments enjoyed great success in the various armed forces, including the Royal Air Force, which used them in World War II fighter planes.

In 1952, Breitling launched its legendary Navitimer watch, featuring a circular slide rule serving to perform the entire range of calculations relating to airborne navigation. In 1962, Scott Carpenter wore a Navitimer on his orbital flight aboard the Aurora 7, becoming the first space-going wrist chronograph.

In addition to the Breitling Jet Team and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show will feature top performers from around the world including two-time Red Bull Air Race World Champion Kirby Chambliss; the Red Bull Air Force; Jack Link’s Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco; Bill Stein and his state-of-the-art Zivko Edge 540; 1995 U.S. National Aerobatic Champion, Michael Goulian Aerosports; and the Lyon Air Museum’s historic C-47 Dakota, recently christened “Willa Dean.”
