A Different Spin on Flying Warbirds

The Blades On The Chopper Go Round And Round...

Warbird Adventures is living up to its name. For years they have been the place to go for both pilot and non-pilot alike to fly an authentic WWII T-6/SNJ advanced fighter trainer. The adventure also included flights in their Bell 47 MASH helicopter over the sites of Central Florida's attractions. Warbird Adventures is adding complete-start to finish flight training in the Bell 47 to their school of higher education for the pilot who wants to do and know more. What will set Warbird Adventures' program apart from others is that after the student pilot has successfully completed the course work and required flight training time, they will be able to rent the Bell 47 for SOLO flight.

The Bell 47 is the perfect platform to learn the techniques that made her the star of the MASH TV show in the 70s and 80s. Originally designed during WWII, the Bell 47 or H-13 "Sioux", as she was called in the service, matured during the Korean War. Acting as a flying Florence Nightingale, the H-13 was responsible for 80% of all the front line evacuations, carrying almost 25,000 soldiers back to Mobile Army Surgical Hospital units.

The Bell 47/H-13 is a great facilitator for teaching the many different eye hand coordination skills needed to fly a helicopter. Contrary to what some might think, helicopters do glide and the "bubble copter" is the safest helicopter to teach this all-important technique in. If you are already a fixed wing pilot, your knowledge of airspace, weather, navigation and communication will help in assimilating all the new procedures you will need to learn. If you have no flying experience and will be getting your private pilots license in a rotorcraft, you will be starting with a blank slate with no preconceived ideas to get in the way of learning to fly in an historic rotorcraft like the classic Bell 47.

Now it is affordable and convenient for pilots to take their flying to a higher plane. Come to central Florida with your family for guilt free training. You can fly while your family visits one of the many attractions and theme parks in the area. At 20 hours of flight training you could be soloing the Bell 47, in approximately 40 hours you could be taking your check ride with a Bell 47 designated examiner and going home to be the envy of all with ticket/diploma in hand. A graduate of Warbird Adventures' "Hover University."
