Cathay Pacific FAs Say Women's Uniforms 'Too Sexy'

Ask Carrier To Make Changes In The Standard Dress

Flight attendants for Cathay Pacific Airline say that the uniforms issued to female FAs are "too sexy" and have asked that the airline re-design them.

The flight attendants say that the uniforms might provoke sexual harassment.

According to a story appearing in the South China Morning Post, the union representing the flight attendants says that the blouses are "too short" and show off their waists when the FAs bend down to retrieve items from the food cart. The union also says that the skirts of the uniforms are too form-fitting.

The uniforms were introduced in 2011. So far, the calls for a re-design have fallen on deaf ears at the airline. Michelle Choi, the Flight Attendants Union honorary secretary, told the paper that the uniforms have led to an apparent increase in incidents of sexual harassment on the part of passengers. She estimates that a cabin crew member is harassed on one of every 10 flights, and that it is mostly on the part of members of the "Marco Polo" frequent flyer program.

Choi has called on the airline to put specific guidelines in place for flight attendants to deal with sexual harassment.
