NTSB Member To Discuss Professionalism In Aviation At PA Community College

Session With Aviation Students, Professionals Scheduled For June 12th

NTSB member Robert L. Sumwalt will visit the Community College of Beaver County in Monaca, PA, to speak about professionalism in aviation 0n June 12 from 1600-1800 EDT.

Mr. Sumwalt (pictured) has been a member of the NTSB since August 2006. He was a pilot for 32 years, including 24 years as an airline pilot with Piedmont Airlines and then US Airways. Mr. Sumwalt served as a member of the Air Line Pilots Association's (ALPA) Accident Investigation Board, co-founded ALPA’s Critical Incident Response Program, and conducted aviation safety research as a consultant to NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System. He also co-authored a book on aircraft accidents and has written extensively on aviation safety matters.

Mr. Sumwalt will be on campus to discuss maintaining aviation professionalism in order to avoid errors, negative publicity, accidents, and fatalities. He will also provide insights into the accident investigations for which he served as the Member on-scene for NTSB.

Current aviation professionals and those interested in the field are encouraged to attend. The event will take place in the Learning Resources Center, conference room 103.
