International Women’s Air & Space Museum Presents Dinner With A Slice Of History

Hosts Keith O’Brien, New York Times Bestselling Author Of 'Fly Girls'

On March 27, 2020, in honor of Women’s History Month, the International Women’s Air & Space Museum (IWASM) will host Dinner with a Slice of History featuring a special presentation by Keith O’Brien, New York Times Bestselling Author of the book “Fly Girls.” Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the program beginning shortly thereafter. O’Brien will host a book signing at the conclusion of the program. Books are available for purchase in the gift shop and will be available the evening of the event. The cost for this event is $17 for IWASM members and $20 for non-members.

“Fly Girls” tells the story of five women who fought to fly and race planes in the 1920s and the 1930s, and why their story still matters today. O’Brien focuses on the lives of these trailblazing women; Florence Klingensmith, Ruth Elder, Amelia Earhart, Ruth Nichols, and Louise Thaden.

The New York Times Book Review has hailed O’Brien for his “keen reportorial eye” and “lyrical” writing style. He has written two books, been a finalist for the PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sportswriting, and contributed to National Public Radio for more than a decade.

O’Brien’s radio stories have appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition, as well as Marketplace, Here & Now, Only a Game, and This American Life. He has also written for The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, USA Today, Politico, Slate, Esquire.com, and the Oxford American, among others.

He is a former staff writer for both the Boston Globe and the New Orleans Times-Picayune. As a newspaper reporter, he won multiple awards, including the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. He was born in Cincinnati and graduated from Northwestern University.

He lives in New Hampshire with his wife and two children.

The 2020 Dinner with a Slice of History series is made possible from the residents of Cuyahoga County through a grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. The museum is located inside Burke Lakefront Airport (KBKL). Seating will be limited.
