Real Food Coming Back to United?

1st Class, Business Get it Free; 'Steerage' PAX Can Buy It

The Seattle-Denver runs on United won't be so full of grumpy, hungry passengers, their bellies gurgling over the thought of just another bag of peanuts or pretzels -- at least for the next few days.

On Monday, United started offering 'real food' meals, prepared by Eli's Cheesecake, and delivered through Gate Gourmet. Breakfast is $7; lunch/dinner are $10; and each mealtime will offer two selections.

Bill Dove, United's director of Worldwide Catering, thinks it's worth a try. He said, "It's a convenience for our passengers and a possible new source of revenue for United."

One of the 8 offerings, served in a decorative basket, is a grilled turkey panini sandwich served on sliced challah bread, with a bowl of fresh fruit and a specialty chocolate chunk cookie. [We got suddenly hungry, and stepped out for lunch; we didn't catch the other menus --ed.]
