Oasis Airlines Having A Tough Time Taking Off

Auspicious Start For Chinese LCC

It's not easy to get a new airline off the ground.. just ask the management of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, a new low-cost carrier planning to fly between Hong Kong and London.

The company's inaugural flight was supposed to takeoff Tuesday night... but after sitting on the runway in Hong Kong for more than five hours, passengers were told to deplane... with no new takeoff time in sight.

What's the trouble? Airline officials say Russia has refused to grant permission for the 747-400 to fly over that country, and they don't know why.

One spokesperson for Oasis said all the paperwork was in order... and the airline has received all other necessary approvals.

Oasis hopes to lift off soon, as do the passengers on the full flight -- as of Wednesday night, the flight was still on the ground. Assuming it can take off soon, Oasis plans to offer one-way tickets from Hong Kong to London for as little as $140 dollars... with plans to eventually fly to the US, as well as destinations in Europe such as Berlin and Milan.
