Pilot Arrested With Loaded Gun In Carry-On Luggage

Incident Took Place At Southwest Florida International Airport

A Sun Country Airlines pilot was arrested Friday at Southwest Florida International Airport for carrying a loaded gun in his carry-on luggage.

The Miami Herald reports that the pilot was Brian Andrew Machtemes, 54, of Minnetonka, MN. TSA found the firearm in his suitcase, and he was arrested and released on $5,000 bond.

Machtemes is licensed to carry a firearm in Minnesota, but his permit is not valid in Florida, according to the report. TSA allows unloaded firearms to be carried in locked containers in checked luggage.

An airlines spokeswoman confirmed that Machtemes is a pilot for the carrier, but had no further comment.
