Philippine AF Assault Helicopter Crashes, Injuring Pilots

Crash Attributed To Pilot Error

Two female Philippine Air Force pilots were treated and released from a Philippine hospital Thursday after crash landing their MG-520 rocket-firing helicopter on a runway of Zamboanga International Airport.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 am local time while the helicopter was on a maintenance flight. The women, identified only as Captain Patrimonio and Major Quintana, suffered only bruises.

Colonel Reynaldo Ramirez, chief of the Philippine Air Force's 3rd Tactical Operations Wing, told local television the cause of the incident was "pilot error" and the helicopter was a total loss.

The incident closed the airport to all incoming and outgoing aircraft for more than an hour.
