Air Force Academy Cadet Fatally Injured In Skydiving Accident

Had Been Jumping With Civilian Company In Colorado

An Air Force Academy cadet was fatally injured in a skydiving accident Sunday.

The El Paso County (CO) Sheriff reports that cadet Kaleb Estes was fatally injured when he made a hard landing in a field in Calhan after a jump with Out of the Blue Skydiving. The town is about 40 miles east of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

The Associated Press reports that a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office said that an emergency parachute was found with the cadet's body, but the primary parachute was not found. Investigators said that it is possible that Estes had a problem with the main and jettisoned it.

Estes was an experienced skydiver with more than 500 jumps to his credit, according to the report.

The accident is being investigated by the FAA.
