NBAA 2007: Jet Source Emphasizes 'Green' Programs

Solar Energy To Power New Nevada Facility

Full-service aviation provider Jet Source chose to emphasize its commitment to the environment at NBAA 2007. The company tells ANN it is focused on maintaining a leading-edge for the next generation of aviation through a variety of innovative advancements and accomplishments... including an unprecedented reliance on solar power.

Based at Palomar-McClellan Airport in Carlsbad, CA Jet Source is the first -- and, the company notes, still the only-- FBO in the country to be powered by solar energy. The company has also installed a lighting and HVAC system designed to reduce overall energy usage by more than 50 percent, which has saved the company more than 90 percent on energy bills.

With its solar-powered system in place, Jet Source has also been able to contribute additional electricity to the grid at the peak hours of the day, when energy is in high demand, to reduce the threat of rolling “brown-outs” for the surrounding community of businesses and residents.

“As a leader in this industry, it’s incredibly important to recognize our responsibility to support a clean environment,” said Frank Milian, president and COO at Jet Source.  “We understand that investing in renewable energy solutions is a critical component for the future of aviation and we’re proud of our ability to find new ways of doing that to increase efficiency and reduce costs.”

Solar power has proven so effective in SoCal, Jet Source is also adding the technology to another facility located in a sunny place -- Henderson, NV, just east of Las Vegas.

Set to open in 2009, the state-of-the-art facility will consist of two 35,000 square foot hangars and an executive terminal with exclusive amenities, a special VIP room and concierge-style services for its customers.
